Helen Gay Carpenter
Helen Gay Carpenter, 90, of Hot Springs, Virginia died Friday, September 04, 2015 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia.
She was born August 28, 1925 in McDowell, Virginia, the daughter of the late Joseph Edgar Williams and Mamie Ester Gum Williams.
She was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. She loved to cook and to travel. She was a member of Eden United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow Herbert Carpenter who preceded her in death on March 6, 1995.
She is survived by three children, Donnie Carpenter & friend Gloria Robbins of Ocala, Florida, Sharon K. Carpenter Harvey & friend Clinton Burks of Hot Springs, Virginia, Janice Lockart & friend Bill Restivo of Florida and Canada; four grandchildren, Chris Carpenter & wife Sherry, Tammy Ryder & husband Charlie, Pam Medved and Amanda Harvery & friend James Doherty; nine great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousin.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Carpenter; a daughter-in-law Jane Carpenter; 2 sons-in-law Lee Lockhart & Jerry Urban; and a brother, Clyde Williams.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 10, 2015 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor Lorrie Aikens officiating. Interment will be in Warm Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chris Carpenter, Bill Restivo, Charlie Ryder, Mike Hayslett, Roger Lee Hayslett, Ronnie Carpenter, Darin Ryer and Dillon Ryder.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
