David Alan Hevener, 50, of Dry Run Road, Burnsville, Virginia, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2011 at Bath Community Hospital after a courageous battle against cancer.
He was born on July 30, 1960 at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Quantico, Virginia, the son of Dempsie and Joyce Hevener. He was married to Marjorie Webb Hevener on July 18, 1992.
David was a 1978 graduate of Battery Creek High School in Beaufort, South Carolina and graduated from Mary Washington University with a business degree. He attended Burnsville United Methodist Church. Prior to his illness David was employed by the Charlie Obaugh Dealership in Staunton, Virginia. He was a loving husband and father. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman who enjoyed long walks with his dogs and vacations with his family at Harbor Island, South Carolina.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie of Burnsville; a daughter, Darah Elizabeth Hevener and a son Daniel Robert Hevener both of Burnsville; his parents, Dempsie and Joyce Hevener of Burnsville; three sisters, Deborah Small of Hot Springs, Virginia, Diana Green and husband Robert Green of Burnsville, Doreen Cook and her husband Gary Thomas Cook of Shelby, North Carolina; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eddie and Martha Webb of Burnsville; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Billy and Pam Webb of Burnsville; an aunt, Patricia Atkinson of Stafford, Virginia, an aunt and uncle, Linda and Anthony Malanka of Dumfries, Virginia; an aunt and uncle, Jayne and Randy Snider of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; two nieces, several nephews and cousins; and his loving pets Claire, Punk and Chloe.
A celebration of David’s life will be held 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 24th, at the Burnsville United Methodist Church in Burnsville. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Burnsville United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Diana Green, 9422 Dry Run Road, Burnsville, Virginia 24487 or to the Burnsville First Responders, c/o Betty Alexander, 95 Red Hole Valley, Burnsville, Virginia 24487; or the Hot Springs Rescue Squad, P.O. Box N, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445. Arrangements are being handled by McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home in Hot Springs, Virginia.
