Gregory Allan Rogers, Sr., 53, of 473 Jackson River Turnpike, Hot Springs, Virginia, died Thursday, March 1, 2012 at the LewisGale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor, Virginia. He was born February 22, 1959 in Alleghany County, Virginia, the son of Donald H. Rogers and Shirley Fisher Rogers. Greg lived life to the fullest. He was of genuine character and had a great sense of humor. Greg was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He enjoyed ginsenging in the mountains. He was a great cook. He had a green thumb, loved the blackberry vines and gardening. He was a carpenter, like working with his hands, and built many things. He never met a stranger. Greg was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed the time he had with his grandkids. He is survived by his parents, Donald & Shirley Rogers of Hot Springs; his wife of 18 years, Mary N. Rogers, whom he married on February 26, 1994; two children, Gregory Allen Rogers, Jr. & wife Felicia Dawn of Hot Springs and Natomia Spring Tapia & husband Mauricio of Ashburn, Virginia; three grandchildren, Hailey Kimberlin of Covington, Virginia, Cameron Lee Rogers of Hot Springs and Liliana Tapia of Ashburn; a brother; Gerald Wayne Rogers & wife Peggy of Hot Springs; a sister, Cheryl Dawn Walton & husband Darrell of Hot Springs; a mother-in-law, Ruth Fix of Falling Springs, Virginia; several nieces, nephews, many friends and extended family. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 3, 2012 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Shaver officiating. Interment will be in Jones Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Arnold Newcomer, Donnie Crouse, Tommy Depriest, Justin Richmond, Dewey May, Walter Adams, Dusty Kincaid, Fred Hise and Gene Deffenbaugh. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at McLaughlin and Young Funeral Home.
