Douglas Wayne Hiner, 82, of Warm Springs, Virginia passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
He was born February 5, 1943, in Bath County, Virginia, the son of the late Jessie James Hiner and Virginia Dare Rodgers Hiner.
Wayne was the former owner of Mick or Mack “Valley Supermarket”. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during Vietnam.
He was a lifelong member of the Warm Springs Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and a Deacon, and an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved growing vegetables in his garden and taking care of his yard. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy Elizabeth Byrd Hiner whom he married on June 30, 1969; two children, Mark Douglas Hiner & wife Kristin of Roanoke, Virginia, Amy Elizabeth Hiner Boyle & husband Christopher of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren, Aidan Warren Hiner and Riley Elizabeth Hiner, both of Roanoke; Samuel Duncan Boyle, Molly Elizabeth Boyle, Michael Christopher Boyle, and Benjamin Thomas Boyle all of Virginia Beach; three sisters; Joyce Hastings of Charlottesville, Virginia
Carol Runkle of Staunton, Virginia and Shirley Bowles of Martinsville, Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother Jessie James “JJ” Hiner.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Warm Springs Presbyterian Church with Reverend Marty Fields officiating. Interment will be in Warm Springs Cemetery.

We worked together for 20 years. He was a good friend and will be greatly missed. Our love goes out to Nancy and the family.
