Mary Teresa Young, 73, of Stuarts Draft, Virginia passed away Tuesday, April 07, 2026, at Augusta Health, Fishersville, Virginia.
She was born on August 24, 1952, in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of the late James Joseph Schmidt and Mary Schmidt.
Teresa was a former Guide at the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton. She sang & played guitar in a jazz band and later in a duet with Judy Arnold. She composed songs such as “Surfside Blues”. She performed with the Waynesboro Players starring in Li’l Abner as Mammy Yokum. She worked alongside her husband & daughter at Grahams Shoe Service waiting on customers and providing cheer to all who entered. She loved being outdoors and raising herbs.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, David Marion Young; a granddaughter, Kaeri Laney of Staunton, Virginia; and two brothers, James Anthony Schmidt and Robert Christopher Schmidt both of Columbus, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Yvonne Victoria Young.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
