Nelson CarpenterNelson “Cooper” Blair Carpenter, Jr., 76, of Hot Springs, Virginia died Saturday, November 01, 2014 at his residence.

He was born June 11, 1938 in Hot Springs, the son of the late Nelson Carpenter, Sr. and Frances “Marie” Flint Carpenter.

Cooper was employed as a carpenter for James Clark Contracting.

He was a veteran of the US Army.

Cooper was a member of Virginia Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a caring father who loved to hunt deer and wild turkey, as well as fish for native trout, and also frequented yard sales and auctions.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margaret Carpenter of 294 Grandview Rd, P.O. Box 141, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445; 2 children: Scott Carpenter and special friend Lori Altizer of Hot Springs, and Elizabeth Crowell and husband Jimmy of Leesville, South Carolina; grandchildren: Aaron, Krista, and Bryan Crowell;
2 brothers-in-law; Keith Alt and wife Mozelle of Crestview, Florida, and his special hunting buddy Jim Alt and wife Gail of Covington; 1 sister; Ann Cook and husband Wayne of Chester, VA; 1 foster sister; Gracie Lattazio and husband Jim of Gaithersburg, Maryland; several nieces and nephews, and 2 special caregivers, Pricilla Madison and Kathleen Fridley.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Virginia Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Lorrie Aikens officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Virginia Chapel Memorial Fund, 81 Wilkinson Ave, Hot Springs, VA 24445 or Mountain Regional Hospice, 537 Main St, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 in lieu of flowers.
