Assunta Maria Ryder, 93, of Mountain Grove, died Friday, June 24, 2011 at her residence.

Mrs. Ryder was born in New York City, New York on October 5, 1917 to the late Francesco Manfredi and Elena Rugani Manfredi. She was married to her husband of 56 years Lt. Col. Oliver A. Ryder, Ret., who died, January 28, 1998. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved her home in Mountain Grove.

Sue is survived by two daughters, Netha Marie Veon of Mountain Grove, Virginia, and Elena Lee Rounds of Statesville, North Carolina; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Ryder of Tampa, Florida; five grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Lt. Col. Fredrick Ryder and Phillip Ryder; a granddaughter, Barbara Williams; a brother; and a sister.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hot Springs, Virginia, with Father John McGinnity officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home, Hot Springs, Virginia.
