Betty Jane Thomas Mines, 71, of Millboro, Virginia, died Thursday, July 28, 2011 in Millboro.

Mrs. Mines was born in Bath County, Virginia on June 16, 1940 a daughter of the late Walter Lee Thomas and Mary Jane Kincaid Thomas. She was married to the late Ernest Wayne Mines, Sr. For many years she worked as a nurse’s aid and provided home care services for numerous Bath County residents. Betty formerly attended Eden United Methodist Church and the Shrine of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mrs. Mines touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by a daughter, Teresa Taylor of Chesterfield, Virginia; two sons, Ernest Wayne Mines, Jr. of Richmond, Virginia and John Edward Mines and wife Mechele of Covington, Virginia; two brothers, Bernard Thomas and wife Jane of Madison, Virginia and Thomas Thomas and wife Mary of Baker, West Virginia; a sister, Lillie McElwee of Hot Springs, Virginia; five grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Alexander Mines; three sisters and one brother.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 1, 2011, at Warm Springs Cemetery with Father John McGinity officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 31, 2011 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home in Hot Springs.
