Carl H. “Flea” Carpenter, 75, of Hot Springs, Virginia, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the Bath Community Hospital.
He was born July 25, 1936 in Hot Springs, the son of the late George and Elsie Armstrong Carpenter. He was married to the late Patsy Cole Carpenter who preceded him in death in 2005.
Mr. Carpenter was an employee of the Homestead Resort as a starter for the Lower Cascades Golf Course with nearly 50 years of service. He was a member of the Hot Springs Presbyterian Church and a member of the Hound Dog Hunt Club. Mr. Carpenter was an avid golfer and hunter. He was a loving brother, father and grandfather and a faithful friend to many.
He is survived by three children, Robert Glenn Carpenter & wife Nan of Cornish, NH, Helen Gozaloff & husband Mike of Rock Hill, SC and Shannon Lewis & husband David of Hot Springs; two sisters, Josephine Collins & husband Ed of Roanoke, Virginia and Clarice Rodgers of Hot Springs; eight grandchildren, Kara, Ashley, Jillian, Joshua, Kostya, Giles, Meghan and Jackson.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, George Carpenter and Robert Carpenter; and a sister, Edith Layton.
A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 26 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home in Hot Springs with Reverend Glenn Coleman officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to services from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
