Charles Earl Bogan, 81, of Hot Springs, Virginia passed Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at the Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina.
He was born November 11, 1937 in Highland County, Virginia, the son of the late William Lockridge Bogan and Bonnie Kate Wagner Bogan.
He was a retired self-employed contractor. Prior to his contract work, he was an employee of the Homestead Resort for 30 plus years as a truck driver for the food and beverage department.
He was married to the late, Susan Eleanor Thompson Bogan who preceded him in death on March 28, 2003.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all. He was an extremely talented carpenter and plumber. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf.
He is survived by three children, John Theodore “Ted” Bogan & wife Alice of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Kathleen Quesenberry & husband John of Calabash, North Carolina, Andrea Bogan-Hiebert & husband Jo Hiebert of Greensboro, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Courtney Bogan of Rock Hill, Maggie Hiebert of Greensboro, Liam Hiebert of Greensboro; a brother, William L. Bogan, Jr. & wife Sonja of Shelton, Washington; three sisters, Julia B. Smith of Hot Springs, Bonnie B. Turner of Broadway, Virginia, Phyllis B. Waskey of Clifton Forge, Virginia; a special friend, Carolyn Waugh of Covington, Virginia; and his “furry friend” Sadie.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Swearengin.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 3, 2019 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Joyce Ryder officiating. Interment will be in Warm Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Todd Smith, Pat Bogan, Bill Bogan, Don Ryder, Roy Gutshall, Ricky Ryder and Wade Ryder.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 10-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

      My dad, like my mom, never knew the impact they had on this community. He was sooooo very lucky to have such friends (family) like you. I just want you to know, that while he was with us and he would tell me that he was in your company I rested so easily knowing that. Your impact on him and now Andi, Teddy and I is a big one.   8. Hello. Sending sincere sympathies to the Bogan family from the Haynes family, in particular from my Daddy, Pete Haynes. He was so sad to learn that he is the only member of his golf foursome left…and greatly misses and remembers Rene Dufour, B.G. McElwee, and, now, Charlie Bogan.
