clarenceClarence Edward Peery, 73, of Hot Springs, Virginia passed Thursday, December 22, 2016 doing what he loved to do, hunting with his family on Warm Springs Mountain.

He was born May 19, 1943 in Bath County, the son of the late William Edward Peery and Olivia Lanier Pole Thomas Peery.

Clarence was retired from Hercules Corp. after 25 years and AET Corp. after 11 years. He was employed with the Homestead Hotel for the last 17 years as an outside golf starter and supervisor.  Clarence was a caddie at the Homestead since 1956, and worked part-time with McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home for 22 years.

He was a loving father and grandfather, an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and spend time with his family.  Clarence enjoyed cutting firewood, playing golf, and working.  A truly humble man with a passion for others and his community, he served on the Bath County School Board for 6 years, where he also served as Chairman, he was a life member of the Hot Springs Fire Department, and served as President of the Bath County Fire and Rescue Association.  He was a member and trustee of the Healing Springs Baptist Church, volunteered as the Bath County High School Girls Softball Coach for many years, was a trustee of the Union Chapel Cemetery and the Mickey Robertson Memorial Fund.

Clarence is survived by his children, Renea Lindsay & husband David of Hot Springs, Paul Peery & wife Melissa of Buchanan; 4 grandchildren, Justin Lindsay, Alex Lindsay, Courtney Peery, and Erin Peery; a brother, Harold Peery of Hot Springs; a sister, Lettie Mae Cauley & husband Hubert “Thornton” of Hot Springs; a brother-in-law, Smokey Stover; special friend, Iona Conner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Wilma Peery and a sister Patricia Stover.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor John Klink officiating. Interment will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Justin Lindsay, Alex Lindsay, Billy Stover, Dennis Carter, Brian Stover, Mark Fry, and Barry Ryder.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening, December 27, 2016 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home.

  1. This was such a shock to see. I was very saddened when hearing about Clarence’s death. I had the privilege of working with Clarence for a number of years at McLaughlin Funeral Home. He was a wonderful co-worker, friend, and an all around nice guy. He always had a smile on his face and a joke or story to tell. Have really missed working with him, and Lonnie and Billy Hodge the last few years. All wonderful guys. I pray that God will bless Clarence’s family now and in the days to come. Thanks Clarence for being a friend and mentor.
