IMG_1177Clifton Hansel Ryder, Jr., 72, of 152 Robinson Lane, Warm Springs, Virginia, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016 at his residence.

He was born May 31, 1944 in Warm Springs, the son of Montague Ruth Swearengin Ryder and the late Clifton Hansel Ryder, Sr.

He was married to Phyllis Conneice Kenney Ryder, his wife of 54 years whom he married on March 17, 1962.

Hansel was retired from the Bath County Parks and Rec as the Adult Athletic Director with more than 35 years of service.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards. He loved to play golf. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by 3 children, Tina Bryant of Cleveland, Georgia, Deseray Chaplin & husband Johnny of Bacova, Virginia, Brent Ryder & wife Heather of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky; grandchildren, Patrick, Jeremy, Brandi, Rebecca, Ki, Cain and Corbin; and great grandchildren, Breanna, Colton and Shiann,

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Scott Dewayne Ryder; great grandson, Grayson Chaplin; and a brother, Hugh Edward “Buzz” Ryder.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor Frank Neff officiating. Interment will be in Warm Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charlie Woodzell, Justin Woodzell, Johnny Chaplin, Albert Ailstock, Ki Ryder, Patrick Chaplin, Jeremy Bryant and Corbin Ryder.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home.
