Constance “Connie” Ann Corley Metheny, 90, of 2611 Westminster Road, Millboro, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Andover, Ohio. 

She was born April 29, 1933, in Junior, West Virginia, the daughter of Vern Loren Corley and Ica Bertie Bennett Corley.  

Connie was married to the late Robert “Bob” David Metheny, her husband of 59 years whom she married on April 19, 1951. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2011.

She was a genealogist for the Bath County Historical Society. Later, she worked in Transcripts for the Bath County Clerk of the Court. She took her first genealogy course her senior year in high school. She was the Founding Regent of the Sara Murray Lewis Chapter of the Bath/Highland Daughters of the American Revolution, serving 5 total terms as Regent. Connie co-authored, Bath County Marriage Bonds and Ministers’ Returns, 1791 – 1853. She retired at age 82, as a Title Abstractor, in Bath, Highland, Allegheny, and Pocahontas counties.  

She is survived by her children, Carolyn Smith of Andover, Ohio, Robert Michael “Mike” Metheny & wife Mary of Gordonsville, Virginia, Stephen “Steve”  Metheny and Douglas “Doug” Metheny & wife Betty all of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Anne Ady & husband Thomas of Millboro, Virginia; brother Willis Corley & wife Aggie of Denton, Kentucky; a sister, Marion Moore of Worthington, West Virginia; grandchildren, David Smith & wife Debbie, Christina Weinreber & husband Mathew, James Smith & wife Melanie, Stephanie Taylor & husband Brett; Robert Michael Metheny II, Matthew Metheny & wife Erin; Sarah Cook & husband Larry; Kelly Metheny; Tommy Ady & wife Megan, Bobby Ady & wife Michele, Rebekah Schennum & husband Brian; great grandchildren, Kelsi & husband Matt, Tyler & fiancé Holly, Emily & husband Andrew, Ashley, Grace & husband Drew; Austin & wife Krista, Logan & wife Elizabeth, Morgan & fiancé Mary, Brendan, Madison; Mason, Ella Rose; Gwyneth, Cassey, James & wife Harlee, Zachary & wife Lisa, Melanie & husband Evan, McKenna, Alia, Brody, Savannah, Gabriella; Greyson, Ellis; Katie, fiancé Dexter; Kortlin, Charlee; Taylor, husband Payton; Carley, Chase, Caleb, Cash; Tyler, Trevor, Ayden, Anna, Emma; Micah, Noah, Hadley; and great great grandchildren, Lisa, Harper, Flood, Tilly; Lucas, Emma, Nathan; Leonardo; Cooper, Everett;  Mason, Lennon; Zoey; and Pacey.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gregory “Greg” Metheny; 2 great grandchildren, Chad and Timmy Shifflett; brothers, Earnest, Milton, Vern Jr, Richard, Larry, and her twin brother, Robert.; and sisters, Mary Margaret, Carol, Mavis, Hilma Jean, and Karen.

Visiting hours will be from 11am – 12pm with a funeral service following at 12pm Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Woodland Church with her son, Mike Metheny officiating. Interment will be in the Metheny Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David & Jamie Smith, Tommy & Bobby Ady, Robert & Matthew Metheny.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bath County Historical Society, 99 Courthouse Hill Road, Warm Springs, Virginia 24484.

  1. Connie will be best remembered by her smile. It seemed she wore it in all situations. Even when she caught us doing things we shouldn’t have been doing. I love her calm way of dealing with everything I always felt peaceful in her presence. You all were so blessed to have her as your mother. She will be missed.

  2. She was one of my favorite aunts. I always thought she was beautiful and I loved visiting her home in Virginia. I remember when I was 5 years old she took me shopping and bought me a dress!
