Dorothy Hodge Hurt, 94, formally of Hot Springs, VA passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 1, 2015 in Spotsylvania County, VA.
Dorothy was born in Bath County, September 26, 1921, the third child of Roy H. Hodge, Sr. and Mary Blanche Hodge. She attended Mary Washington College and Dunsmore Business College.
On December 25, 1941, she married Elmer H. Hurt of Clifton Forge, VA. Dorothy and Elmer returned to Hot Springs in 1950 where they owned a business together until their retirement in 1986. Dorothy joined the Warm Springs Presbyterian Church in 1935 where she was an elder, a member of the choir, and active in the work of the church. She was a member of the Hot Springs Garden Club, served as director for the Bath County Historical Society, and worked the election polls for many years.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Franchesta H. Williams and son-in-law Donald L. Williams of Spotsylvania, VA; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Hurt; grandchildren Lee Ann Chesterfield (Tom), Scott Williams (Sharon), Marsha Hurt, and Amanda Williams; great-grandchildren Kailee Williams, Kristen Chesterfield, and Bryce Chesterfield; her sisters Paige H. Wheeler of Roanoke, VA and Bettie H. Compton of Stuarts Draft, VA.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her devoted husband Elmer H. Hurt and loving son Eric L Hurt; her siblings Geneive Saunders, Roy Hodge, Jr., Roland Hodge, Clifford Hodge, Wanda Smith, and Wayne Hodge.
A service for Mrs. Hurt will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Warm Springs Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at the Warm Springs Cemetery.
