Dorothy Long May, 85, of Thomastown Road, Hot Springs, Virginia, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Augusta Health in Fishersville, Virginia.

She was born January 21, 1926 in Roanoke County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Arthur Raymond Long and Sara Victoria Young Long. She was married to “Tom” Norman T. May who preceded her in death on September 7, 1994.

Mrs. May was retired from the Cascade Inn where she worked as a hostess for 40 years. She was a member of Hot Springs Presbyterian Church and the Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by a son, Tommy May, Jr. & wife Linda of Hot Springs, a sister, Glenna Lipes of Covington, Virginia; two grandchildren, Tim May & wife Twila of Hot Springs, Pam Hensley & husband Tony of Charlottesville, Virginia, three great grandchildren, Meagan May of Roanoke, Virginia, Brandon May of Covington and Amber May of Hot Springs; special friends, J.C. Carter of Staunton, Virginia, and Berlyn & Ethel McElwee of Bridgewater, Virginia, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three brothers.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., May 15, 2011 at the Hot Springs Presbyterian Church with Reverend Glenn Coleman officiating. Interment will be in the Union Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Bogan, Freddie Harold, B.G. McElwee, Mike Spurgeon, Bobby Spurgeon, Rolf Brunner, Ray Rogers, Jimmy Hooker and Tim May.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home.
