Douglas Junior McElwee, 90, of Hot Springs, Virginia passed away Thursday, April 07, 2016 at Augusta Health in Fishersville, Virginia.
He was born July 25, 1925 in Hot Springs, Virginia, the son of the late Junior Michael McElwee and Pauline Helen Gibson McElwee.
Mr. McElwee was retired from the Homestead Resort after 50 years of service in the painting department.
He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during WWII.
Mr. McElwee was a member of Eden United Methodist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to play golf. He coached little league baseball and was a member of the Hot Springs Fire Department for many years. He was loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marilynn Marie Woodzell McElwee of Hot Springs; four children, Keith McElwee & wife Judy and Debbie Ratcliffe & husband Gary all of Hot Springs, Lenny McElwee of Burnsville, Virginia, Rick McElwee & wife Teri of Trinity, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Wendy, Jamie, Brad, Sarah, Nikki; three sisters, Helen Hoover of Hot Springs, Nancy White & husband Buck of Staunton, Virginia and Dot Weese of Covington, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard & Gene McElwee; a sister, Pearl Hooker; and a special grandson, Riley.
A funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2016 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor Lorrie Aikens & Mr. Johnny Woodzell officiating. Interment will be in Warm Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Woodzell, Jamie McElwee, Brad McElwee, Tim Wenck, Kenny Gwin, Georgie Lindsay, Bobby Fry & Gary Smith
The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home or anytime at the home of 188 Fairview Lane in Mitchelltown.
