Douglas Leon Moats, 67, of Millboro, VA died Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
He was born August 25, 1945 in Bath County, Virginia, the son of the late Hubert Lee Moats and Evelyn Simmons Moats.
He was employed with Homestead Resort in the Convention Set Up Services with over 37 years of service.
Mr. Moats was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam War.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He loved riding motorcycles.
He is survived by two children, Virginia Liptrap & husband Jack of Warm Springs, Virginia, Douglas Errol Moats & wife Tracey of Alleghany County, Virginia; six grandchildren, Jared Hannah, Hope Hannah, Ashlyn Liptrap, Callie Newcomer, Kelsie Newcomer and Syndall Moats; three step grandchildren, Stephanie Cauley, Jennifer Knott and Angela Liptrap; 3 step great grandchildren; a brother, Virgil Moats & wife Sue of Granite Falls, North Carolina; a sister; Anne Marie Napps & husband Ralph of Halifax, Virginia; and Errol’s Grandpa – Winnie Hise of Warm Springs, Virginia.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 17, 2012 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Reverend Garland Humphries officiating. Interment will be in Warm Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. at McLaughlin and Young Funeral Home.
