Dr. Eddie W. Stinnett, D.D.S., age 91

A dentist and farmer passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025. He was a resident of Bath County and former resident of Fairfax County. Dr. Stinnett graduated from Temperance High School in Amherst County. He received his B.S. Degree from Lynchburg College, Lynchburg, Virginia in 1955. His D.D.S. Degree Cum Laude from Georgetown University School of Dentistry in 1964. Dr. Stinnett practiced General Dentistry for 36 years in Annandale, Virginia. He was also a Clinical Professor in the Department of Crown and Bridge at Georgetown school of Dentistry.

He was a member of the American Dental Society, Northern Virginia Dental Society, Virginia State Dental Society, Fairfax County Dental Society having served as its president 1974-1975. He was also a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society. He received the J. Garett Reilly Dental Research Award in 1964 and the Georgetown University Bicentennial Medal for service from 1964-1984.

He served as a member of the Dental Technology Curriculum Committee for the Northern Virgina Community College and was given special recognition.

After graduating from college, he volunteered for the draft into the U.S. army where he reported for training at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. At the graduation of the company ceremonies, he was honored by being chosen as the “Outstanding Member of the Company for “Training Excellence”. After basic training, he was given a permanent assignment to manage the Post Surgeons Medical Laboratory at Fort Sam Houston, Brook Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas. During his tour of duty, December 1958 he was chosen “Soldier of the Month” and received a cash award by Col. Hawthorne Davis, Executive Officer. Before completing his tour of duty in 1959, he was awarded a certificate of achievement from Henry F. Taylor, Colonel, Infantry Commander for implementing three new technical procedures which materially increased the efficiency of the Post Surgeon Office. He was glad to have given two years of his life to serving his country.

After 36 years of practice and teaching, Dr. Stinnett retired in 2000 and he and wife later returned to their farm in Bath County.

Dr. Stinnett enjoyed life, special times with his family and friends. He believed in living in the present. He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, gardening, reading and writing. “Early to bed, early to rise, enjoying the miracles of nature giving praise to God for all his many blessings.”

Thank you for reading a portion of this man’s life, written by himself. After losing my wife of 64 years, who else knew my life better than myself! Maybe some will say, “a life well lived”. My name He has called, I’m tired and I am now going for eternal rest.

He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Patricia “Tricia” Neal Johnston Stinnett who passed in 2022; his mother, Frances Hodge Stinnett; father, James Ray Stinnett; and brother, Earl Ray Stinnett; a brother-in-law, Lewis Frazier.

He is survived by a son, David W. Stinnett; a daughter, Laura H. Stinnett Spitnale and husband Scott; a brother, Dr. Rodney G. Stinnett, MD and spouse, Malissa; a sister, Audrey Stinnett Frazier; grandson, Grant Taylor and wife Brenna; numerous nieces, and nephews.
