Earlean M. McElwee, 83, of Hot Springs, Virginia, died Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Springs Nursing Center.
Mrs. McElwee was born on October 10, 1929 in Toombs County, Georgia, to the late Rafe & Ophelia McDaniel. She was married to the late George Nelson McElwee who preceded her in death in 1982. She was a homemaker and was previously a member of the Covington Moose Lodge. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, and gardening. Most of all, she loved spending time with her friends and family. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Ann McElwee & special friend Bill Uzzell of Hot Springs, Sandra Rojsountikul & husband Sam of Locust Grove, Virginia, and Rosemarie Rexrode and husband Nathan of Bluegrass, Virginia; two sons, Alan McElwee of Locust Grove, and James Preston “J.P.” McElwee & special friend Sandra Booth of Hot Springs; a former daughter-in-law, Cheryl McElwee of Kentucky; a brother, Ray McDaniel of Macon, Georgia; three sisters, Eunice Wallace of Savanna, Georgia, Sally Jo Patterson of San Antonio, Texas, and Lena Young of Boston Massachusetts; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Shanks and Frances Wilson; nine grandchildren, Lisa McComb & husband James, Daniel Ray Woodzell & wife Jill, Michelle Ryder & husband Michael, Dennis Rojsountikul & wife Magna, Brian Rojsountikul, Steven Rojsountikul, Crystal Rexrode, Mindy Rexrode, and Christopher McElwee; seven great grandchildren, Emily, Dylan, Jacob, Genna, Chaz, Reese, and Rylan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and six brothers.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 21, 2013 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor Donald Lee Altizer officiating. Interment will follow at Warm Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James McComb, Danny Woodzell, Dennis Rojsountikul, Steven Rojsountikul, Brian Rojsountikul, Christopher McElwee, Russell Woodzell, and Rocky Phillips.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home and other times at the home of Lisa & James McComb.

  1. We have a monthly service at The Springs and Earlean was always there…always the first person to greet us and tell us how much she appreciated us coming to see them. She loved the service and the music…and always wanted to know what we were going to do next. We will miss her very much. My sympathies especially go to Sandy and Mary Ann. Your mom was very special.
