GOSHEN — Emanuel Clayton Sprouse, 78, died Sunday evening, June 10, 2012, at his residence. He was born June 22, 1933, in Augusta County, the son of the late Pearl and Lucy Harlow Sprouse.
He was married to Laura J. Sprouse, who preceded him in death Nov. 23, 2011.
He retired after 26 years of service with the Burk, Parson, Bolby plant in Goshen and was a member of Little River Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed gardening and was well-known for his willingness to share with his neighbors.
He is survived by three sons, Leo Shiflett of Craigsville, Larry Shiflett and wife, Kay, of Harrisonburg and Gerald Shiflett of Crider; three daughters, Rholettle Chandler, Shirley Shiflett and Diana Stokes, all of Craigsville; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The last of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Dennis, Verny and Robert Sprouse, and three sisters, Mable Miller, Lessie Ellinger and Mary Carroll.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Little River Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Scott Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Little River Church of the Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Craigsville Funeral Home.
