Gary Allen Thompson, 72, of Covington, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the Springs Nursing Center in Hot Springs, Virginia.
He was born April 10, 1947 in Alleghany County, Virginia, the son of the late Allen Porter Thompson, Jr. and Betty Zane Wilhelm.
Mr. Thompson was a retired construction worker.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints; the Bordernoir Riding Club where he served as past Vice President and on the Board of Directors; and the Covington Moose Lodge #610.
He is survived by his wife, Paula Eloise Rock Thompson, whom he married on September 29, 1984; a daughter-in-law, Pam Thompson of Covington; two grandchildren, Anthony Thompson & Kailey Thompson both of Covington; a sister, Carol Sue Seum & husband Jack of Arlington, Virginia; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Allen Thompson.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday July 13, 2019 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with President Robert Sampson officiating. Interment will be in the Thompson Family Cemetery – 9th Hole on the Upper Cascade Golf Course. Pallbearers will be Anthony Thompson, Trent Douglas, Austin Douglas, Dale Rock, Freddy Tucker and Eric Seum.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
