George “Sonny” Everett Robertson, 80, of Moorefield, WV died Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg, West Virginia.

He was born June 24, 1943, in Bath County, Virginia, the son of the late Ernest Roy Robertson and Ruby Gatha Robertson.

Mr. Robertson retired from Wallace Campbell Real Estate as a Maintenance Superintendent.

He was a member of Old Fields Baptist Church in Old Fields, West Virginia, where he drove the bus for the church. He enjoyed traveling and camping. Mr. Robertson was awarded the “Hometown Hero” award in Baltimore for being such a capable person. He always went “above and beyond” for his fellow employees.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kathleen Vernice Robertson, whom he married on November 27, 1962; two children, Teresa D. Robertson Thacker of Moorefield, West Virginia, and Gloria A. Davis & husband William of Baltimore, Maryland; grandchildren, Justin Serio & wife Nanette, Lauren Serio, Jeremy Thacker & wife Theresa, Anna Kathleen Thacker, and Chad Everett Davis, all of Baltimore, Maryland; great grandchildren, Harper Ellie Serio, Finley Joseph Serio, Ronin Elijah Warfield, and Myles Anthony Thacker; an adopted daughter, Holly Neff; and numerous special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two precious great grandchildren, “Little Angel” Serio & “Baby Angel” Warfield; and two brothers, Roy David Robertson and William Johnathan Robertson.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the Chimney Run Church of the Brethren with Pastor Billy Robertson and Pastor Dan Howard officiating. Interment will be in Warm Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Justin Serio, Jeremy Thacker, Chad Davis, and Shawn Robertson.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening, January 13, 2024, from 6-7:00 p.m. at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home.

  3. Kathy, I’m so sorry for your loss. Sonny was a good man. I remember when you told me about you and Sonny being at the racetrack and you were trying to get on the statue of the horse. You and Sonny were meant to be together. I love you my dear friend. Hugs and Prayers.

    • My condolences to you I replaced Sonny at Ruxton Towers I feel so privileged to have worked with him we became close friends before he left he gave me a burgundy leather chair and said he wanted me to have and I still have it .Sonny will always be remembered Ruxton Towers have not been the same since he left.

  10. So sorry to hear about Sonny’s passing Kathy. My heart is just broken. I’m so sorry I didn’t know it till now it’s like 11 o’clock Sunday. Wish I could be there but y’all will always be in my thoughts and prayers all often thought of y’all so much and you know I loved you and Sonny your family and ain’t a whole family so much. I pray God be with you and heal your broken heart and may Sonny rest in peace and he’s joining aunt Ruby and uncle Ernie and Dave and Joni. God bless his beautiful soul.

  12. I’m so sorry to hear about Sonny I worked with him at Wallace H Campbell and Mike Stallings we fished together down at point look out he was such a laid back man rest in peace Sonny
