Gerald Elwood Martin, 84, of Covington, Virginia passed away Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the Springs Nursing Center in Hot Springs, Virginia.

He was born February 6, 1942, in Hot Springs, the son of the late Sidney Thuron Martin and Mable Eloise Griffin Martin.

On December 21, 1964, he married Charlotte Ann Gauiter Martin. They would share 61 beautiful years together before her death on January 13, 2026.

Mr. Martin was a heavy equipment operator for Hammond & Mitchell in Covington. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by a son, Gerald Scott Martin of Covington; grandchildren, Carrie Marie Martin of Covington, Summer Vail & husband Peyton of Hematite, Virginia; great grandchildren, Triston, Elaina, Little Charlotte, and Wyatt; brother, Dale Martin & wife Betty of Millboro, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Kim Martin of Covington; sister-in-law, Ruby Martin of Burnsville, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by son, Michael Todd Martin, and a brother, Gene Martin.

A double graveside service for him and his wife will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Covington, with Reverend Doug Hollenbeck officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Carmel Church, 1200 N. Alleghany Ave., Covington, Virginia 24426.
