Gloria Kay Carpenter Spitler, 85, of Chesapeake, Virginia died Sunday, February 11, 2018 in Chesapeake.

She was born March 14, 1932 in Bath County, the daughter of the late Harper Carpenter and Ollie Wolfe Carpenter.

Gloria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Robert Spitler III, Timothy Spitler and wife Angie, Phillip Spitler and wife Debbie, and David Spitler and wife Janet; grandchildren, Bobby Spitler and wife Margie, Phillip Spitler, Jr. and wife Sarah, Dustin Spitler, Jake Spitler and wife Mary, Jason Spitler and wife Lisa, Joy Spitler, Bradley Spitler and wife Kayla; great grandchildren, Bradley, Alexis, Austin, Isabelle, Alex, Benjamin, Jase, Barret, Madison, Makayla, Ethan; numerous nieces, and nephews; and other relatives in Bath County, James and Darlene Carpenter, Joyce and Charles Smith, Nancy and Duane Hawks, Donald and Peggy Carpenter, Ruby Lowry.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Spitler, and her siblings, Willie Carpenter, Bedford Carpenter, Clifton Carpenter, Charlotte Campbell, and Eugene Carpenter.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2018 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Rev. Lonnie Cocker officiating. Interment will be in the private family cemetery.
