Harry Augustas Simmons, 85, of Warm Springs, Virginia passed away Wednesday, January 06, 2021 at the Springs Nursing Center in Hot Springs, Virginia. 

     He was born April 28, 1935 in Bath County, Virginia, the son of the late Ernest (no middle name) Simmons and Sarah “Babe” Abigail Jackson Simmons.

     Mr. Simmons was a mechanic with the truck and equipment department at the Homestead Resort.

     He was a member of the Warm Springs Presbyterian Church and the Staunton Moose Lodge. He was an avid fisherman and a loving husband and father. He had a very faithful companion & fishing buddy, his dog Pepper, whom he loved dearly. He was a skilled inventor and craftsman…he could build anything! .

     He was married to the late Betty Lou Puffenbarger Simmons who preceded him in death on October 30, 2020.

     He is survived by a daughter, Linda Simmons of Warm Springs; a sister-in-law, Emma Simmons of Hot Springs, a niece, Kim Kay of Warm Springs, and a nephew, Steve Simmons of New York; a very special friend and fishing partner, Dollie Long of Buckeye, West Virginia.

     He was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Simmons, Jr.

     A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor David George officiating. Interment will be in Warm Springs Cemetery.

     Pallbearers will be Don Ailstock, Albert Ailstock, Paul Cochran, Bobby Hamilton, Danny Neil and Buddy Rexrode.

     The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

     Memorial contributions may be made to The Springs Nursing Center Activity Fund, PO Drawer 1, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445.
