Harvey Lee Ferris, 73, of 2138 Jackson River Turn Pike, Hot Springs, Virginia died Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the Springs Nursing Center in Hot Springs.
He was born December 19, 1938 in Covington, Virginia, the son of the late Russell L. Ferris and Rachel Kellison Ferris. He was employed as service man for Virginia Dominion Power with 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Eden United Methodist Church and enjoyed visiting Life Line Ministries and the First Nazarene Church. Harvey was a hard worker who loved everyone. He was a loving husband, father and brother.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joyce Gutshall Ferris, whom he married on June 5, 1962; a son, Paul H. Ferris of Hot Springs; three brothers, Richard Ferris & wife Frances of Salem, Virginia, Randell Ferris & wife Norma of Covington, Virginia, and Weldon Gutshall of Hot Springs; two sisters, Doris McCoy of Clifton Forge, Virginia and Louise Pritt of Covington; three sisters-in-law, Sue Ferris and Shirley Ferris both of Covington and Nancy Ferris of Richmond, Virginia.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers Russell W. Ferris, Ryland Ferris and Lanty Ferris.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 21, 2012 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Reverend Lorrie Aikens and Reverend Donald Brown officiating. Interment will be in Emory Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lewie Woods, Hugh Shifflett, Richard Baldwin, Kenny Gwin, Ray Rodgers, Cooper Carpenter, Danny Pritt, Christen Brown and Chris Anderson.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at McLaughlin and Young Funeral Home.
