Henry Reese Smith, 80, of 402 Pinehurst Heights Road, Hot Springs, Virginia, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011 at his residence.
He was born May 17, 1931 in Staunton, Virginia, the son of the late William Franklin Smith and Betty Ruth (Smith) Smith. He was married to Mary Frances Hostetter Smith who preceded him in death in 1973.
Mr. Smith was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict.
He was a construction worker. He was a member of the Piney Grove Baptist Church. Henry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting & fishing; a wonderful cook; and a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by four children, Patricia Dean & husband Herb of Selma, Virginia, Reese Sheldon Smith, Sr. & fiancé Nancy of Lexington, Virginia and Phillip Quinton Smith, Jenny Anderson & husband Tommy all of Hot Springs, who along with Hospice were his caregivers; three brothers, Charles Smith & wife Margaret of Crimora, Virginia, Nelson Smith & wife Juanita of Buffalo Gap, Virginia and Larry Smith & wife Patsy of Staunton, Virginia; a sister, Rebecca Koiner of Staunton, Virginia; 6 grandchildren Randy Smith, Sheldon Smith, Tonya Smith, Travis Smith, Tommy Anderson, Jr. & Mary Morris; and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Wayne Smith and 3 additional brothers.
A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at the Piney Grove Baptist Church with Reverend W. Ed Mansfield officiating and Pastor Steve Shaver assisting. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home; or anytime at the home of Phillip Smith at 402 Pinehurst Heights Road.
