Hugh Brown “Popeye” Hite, Jr., 84, of Hot Springs, Virginia went to be with the Lord while surrounded by his family on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Brian Center of Alleghany in Low Moor, Virginia.

He was born January 15, 1941, in Hot Springs, the son of the late Hugh Brown Hite, Sr. and Ila Francis McNabb Hite.

Popeye retired from the Homestead Resort Spa with over 50 years of service. He started as a Bath Attendant and retired as a Massage Therapist. After retirement, he continued to work part time for the Homestead with Valet Parking. He was previously employed at Hercules for 14 years.

He was a lifelong member of the Healing Springs Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was a charter member of the Hot Springs Fire Department serving as the Chaplin for over 20 years. He was a member of the Chestnut Ridge Hunt Club and loved hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Brenda Jackson Hite whom he married on January 26, 1969;  a daughter, Carol Holsclaw & husband Ross of Edenton, NC;  grandchildren, Drew Adcock & wife Kelsey of Covington, Virginia, Ryan Adcock & friend Rialeigh of Hot Springs, Virginia, Ben Adcock of Clifton Forge, Virginia; great grandchild, Caiden Hugh Adcock of Covington, Virginia; sister-in-law, Ann Keyser of Hot Springs, brother-in-law, Terry Jackson of Burnsville, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; his buddy & companion “Sam”.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Lockhart.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 22, 2025, at Healing Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Goforth officiating, assisted by Donald Lee Altizer. Interment will be in the Warm Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Terry Jackson, Tommy Jackson, David Keyser, J.W. Bryan, Jackie Ratliff, Scott Carpenter, Harold Keyser, and Stephen Hodge.

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Healing Springs Baptist Church, 4697 Sam Snead Highway, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445; or the Hot Springs Fire Department, P.O. Box 1313, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445.
