James Alfred Greer, 67, of 168 Hidden Trail, Warm Springs, died this morning, Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Bath Community Hospital.

Mr. Greer was born on June 16, 1946 in Boone, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Raymond and Myrtle Parsons Greer, formerly of Culpeper, Virginia. He was employed with the C.I.A. in McLean, Virginia where he met his wife of forty six years, Sylvia Dawn Greer. His working career spanned thirty five years in the health care field. Mr. Greer retired in December of 2009 from the Bath Community Hospital after twelve wonderful years working with people he loved like family. After retiring he returned to the hospital on a part time basis where he continued to run the Hot Springs drug store and assist in administration when needed.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Jeffrey Greer, who is currently working and living in Shenzhen, China; Jonathan Greer and wife Sharon of Elm City, North Carolina; and Jason Greer of Atlanta, Georgia; four sisters, Irene Kuhn and husband Joe of Tullahoma, Tennessee; Ann Singletary and husband Tom of Avon Park, Florida; Lois Smith and husband John of Deltona, Florida; and Dorothy Clatterbuck and husband John of Culpepper, Virginia. He is also survived by one granddaughter, numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog and companion, Jessie.

Mr. Greer was a 1969 graduate of Strayer College in Washington D.C. He loved traveling, deep sea fishing, word games and puzzles, reading, and spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, uncle, and friend to all that knew and loved him.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday June 11, 2011 at the Warm Springs Presbyterian Church in Warm Springs, Virginia. Services will be officiated by Reverend Charles Reed.
