John Calvin Sprouse, 51, of 1890 Calf Mountain Road, Waynesboro, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 8, 2012 at his residence.
He was born on December 7, 1960 in Baltimore, Maryland. Throughout his life, he was affectionately known as “Willie,” “Bozey” and “Johno.” John attended Middlebrook Church of God and was employed by Blue Ridge Building Supply in Crozet, Virginia. He volunteered with HOPE: Humanitarians of Pet Education, befriending and rescuing abandoned cats and dogs. He never knew a stranger or forgot a face. He always had a joke to tell or a dog treat on hand to give to his customers’ dogs at work. He loved the Baltimore Orioles, Indianapolis Colts, Matt Kenseth, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Walt Disney World. His smile will be greatly missed by many friends, coworkers and relatives.
He is survived by his wife of twenty six years, Bobbie Sprouse of Waynesboro; his mother, Helen Lois Sprouse Gardner and step father, William Gardner of Craigsville, Virginia; two sisters, Cynthia Sayers Lane of Orlando Florida and Bonnie Sprouse of Craigsville; a brother, William T. Campbell of Staunton, Virginia; a special aunt, Mickey Jones of Craigsville; a niece, Marilyn Lane of Orlando; three nephews, Jimmy Lane of Orlando, Jamie Knight and Donnie Knight and wife Shaina, all of Craigsville; three great nieces, Ashleigh, Emily and Carlie Knight, all of Craigsville; a great nephew, Jamie Knight, Jr. of Craigsville; a special friend, Colonel Doug Byers of Middlebrook, Virginia; and his beloved dogs and cats.
A celebration of John’s life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Estaline Valley Church of the Nazarene in Craigsville with Pastor Larry Strickler officiating. Pallbearers will be Harold Knight, Jamie Knight, Donnie Knight, Russell Baker, Wesley Mitchell and Anthony Lumsden. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Byers and Mike Temple.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Craigsville Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HOPE, Humanitarians of Pet Education, P.O. Box 3112, Staunton, Virginia 24402. Online condolences may be submitted at www.mclaughlinandyoung.com.

  5. I met John when they moved here from Baltimore. We always had a connection as really good friends. And come to find out, we were kin to each other. He was a big tease and loved to pick. John was a good man. I will cherish the memories I have of him. My heart goes out to his wife and his family. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. John will be missed. Sleep with the angels John. Gone but not forgotten. RIP…..
