Chestnut 001 John “Johnny” Willis Chestnut, 80, of Warm Springs, Virginia passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015 at his residence.
He was born October 7, 1934 in Warm Springs, the son of the late Wilbur Willis Chestnut and Pauline Bonner Chestnut.
Mr. Chestnut was a retired carpenter employed by Monk Brothers in Charleston. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served from 1957-1959.
He was a Jehovah Witness and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma “Polly” Chestnut whom he married on September 26, 1997; 5 step-children, Margaret Sue Torr & husband Tony of Sterling, New Jersey, Shirley Lytwyn & husband Peter of Naples, Florida, Joseph A. Keyes & wife Kathy of Hot Springs, Virginia, Debbie Javins of Covington, Virginia and Sandy Keyes of Galax, Virginia; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three sisters; Dorothy Lawrence, Helen Keeney and Betty Nunley all of Charleston, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Keyes; a step grandson, Joey Keyes; and a sister Jean Burdette.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2015 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Boyer officiating. Interment will be in Mountain Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Montgomery Memorial Park in Montgomery, West Virginia.
The family extends a special thank you to the Mountain Regional Hospice for all of their love, care and support.

  3. My condolences to John’s family. John and his Dad, Wilbur were the mainstays of JB & Gertrude Monk’s building business for years. My heart is heavy with the sadness of his passing.
