June “Junie” Lee Keyser Failes, 77, of Hot Springs, died Monday, August 15, 2011 at Bath Community Hospital.

Mrs. Failes was born December 10, 1933, in Bath County, Virginia, to the late Franklin Decatur Keyser and Elvie Smith Keyser Walker. She was married to Walter Britt Failes, Sr., her husband of 54 years, who preceded her in death on October 31, 2007. She was a cashier with Ford’s General Store and worked at the Homestead Resort in the laundry and valet departments. She and her husband, Walter worked as house parents for Boys’ Home in Covington, Virginia. Mrs. Failes was a member of Ashwood United Methodist Church in Hot Springs where she served as a trustee for many years.

Mrs. Failes is survived by her children, Becky Armstrong and husband Rick of Hot Springs, Virginia; Nancy F. Brady and husband Scott of Waynesboro, Virginia; and Rev. Walter B. Failes, Jr. and wife Jan of Vinton, Virginia; nine grandchildren, Eric Neilsen, Andy Neilsen, Courtney and Barry Pugh, Matthew Staton, Jordan and Jacob Larew, Britt Failes, Jessica Hiner, Rachel Brady, and Clayton Brady; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Failes was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Byrd.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Ashwood United Methodist Church with Reverend Lynn Wright officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church. A private burial service will be held at Union Chapel Cemetery at a later date.
