He was born August 29, 1937 in Hot Springs, Virginia, the son of the late George Washington Hooker and Lillian Gertrude Landrum Hooker.
Early in his life he owned & operated his own logging business. He was the manager of the Homestead Stables. After retirement he worked for Dabney Pasco as the farm manager.
Mr. Hooker loved horses…they were his life. He enjoyed going to horse shows and horse sales. He was the “go to guy” for anyone’s questions regarding anything about horses. Mr. Hooker was quiet a storyteller to anyone who would sit and listen to him. He was a loving husband, father & grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Myrna Louise Grimes Hooker of Hot Springs; five children, Susan Gwin, Mike Hooker & Sandi, Debbie Ryder & Barry, Ricky Hooker & April, Jimmy Hooker & Mindy all of Hot Springs, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Katie, Danny, Jesse, Jamie, Tye, Luke, Carter, Aubryn; a sister, Lorraine Cooke of Baltimore, Maryland.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Henry, Herman, George “Dink” Hooker; sisters, Beulah Steele, Bertha Kenley, Lillian Slayter.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the Union Chapel Cemetery with Donald Lee Altizer officiating.

I am deeply sadden to hear of Wayne’s passing. I remember all the good times we shared in the past and how he always made us laugh. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Sad to hear about Wayne. I have five horses and every time I have something wrong with one of them, I think about calling Wayne but I didn’t want to bother him. I wish I had now. I have hear a lot of his stories when he came in the store. I laugh when I remember them. He was a good man. I’m sorry he’s gone.
