Latonya Marie Braxton Brown, 46, of Hot Springs, Virginia, passed away Monday, August 18, 2025, at Lynchburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Lynchburg, Virginia.
She was born August 14, 1979, in Hot Springs, Virginia, the daughter of Gloria Lee Butler Braxton of Hot Springs, and the late Roger Kirby Braxton.
Latonya was a caregiver with Americare Health. She was a member of the Piney Grove Baptist Church, enjoyed listening to music, and played the clarinet when she was in high school. She was an animal lover, especially horses and dogs. On her days off, she and her son had many special times together shopping and eating out. She was a loving daughter, mother and sister who loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her mother, Gloria Braxton, she is survived by a son, Adrian Brown of Hot Springs; a sister, Cheryl Smothers of Millboro, Virginia; a niece, Marshelle Smothers of Waynesboro, Virginia; nephews, Shawn Cardwell of New Castle Delaware, Xavier Smothers of Millboro, Virginia; and a friend who was like a sister to her, Elizabeth Talucci of Hot Springs.
She was preceded in death by a son, Zion Braxton; a brother, Dwayne Kirby Braxton; and a brother-in-law, Vincent Smothers.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 30, 2025, at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Reverend W. Ed Mansfield officiating. Interment will be in Pinehurst
Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Justin Alexander, Danny Cardwell, Oscar Beale, Hall Owens, and Randy Knapp.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
