Lewis Reed Varney, Jr., 87, of Hot Springs, Virginia passed Sunday, April 09, 2017 at Augusta Health in Fishersville, Virginia. 

He was born May 10, 1929 in New Hampshire, the son of the late Lewis Reed Varney, Sr. and Winifred Madeline Wyer Varney.

Mr. Varney was a Captain in the dining room at the Homestead Resort with 50 years of service.

Mr. Varney was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Ashwood United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed sitting on the street in front of his residence and talking to everyone who passed by. Louie never knew a stranger.

He is survived by his sister, Barbara Kelly of Minehaha Springs, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Curtis, Robert, Larry Varney & a sister, Gail Pennington. 

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Ashwood United Methodist Church with Reverend Genevieve Bowles officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the McElwee & Moore Cemetery in Minehaha Springs in West Virginia.

  2. Lewis was a wonderful friend to everyone and I will never forget him. He made everyone feel they were important to him. I was honored to be part of our church family with Lewis at Ashwood United Methodist, and will remember him with happy memories. God bless Lewis, his family, his church, and his neighbors in Bath County.
