Lillie T. McElwee, 85, of Hot Springs, Virginia died Sunday, June 02, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Clifton Forge, Virginia.
She was born April 8, 1928 in Bath County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Walter Lee Thomas and Mary Jane Kincaid. She was married to the late Welford G. McElwee who preceded her in death on December 1, 1972.
Mrs. McElwee was retired from the Bacova Guild. Prior to that, she retired from the Homestead Resort where she worked as a telephone operator for numerous years. She was a member of the Hot Springs Presbyterian Church. She attended the Hot Springs Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Welford Basil McElwee & wife JoAnn of Newport News, Virginia, Richard Dale McElwee & wife Donna of Hot Springs; a daughter, Katherine Lynn Nelson & husband Mark of Hot Springs; two brothers, Bernie Mason Thomas of Rochelle, Virginia and Thomas Julian Thomas of Baker, West Virginia; six grandchildren, Janet Holmes, Corey McElwee, Russ McElwee, Drew Ryder, Matt McElwee and Cody Nelson; 4 great grandchildren, Lexi & Brayden Holmes, Caleb & Carter McElwee.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. McElwee was preceded in death by four sisters, Virginia Hajewski, Bessie Irene Varinski, Betty Mines and Naomi Harris; and a brother, Albert Lee Thomas.
A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 6, 2013 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor Garland Humphries officiating. Interment will be at the Union Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and nephews.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
