Lonnie Wayne Jackson, 60, of 138 Howard Street, Craigsville, Virginia, died Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville.
He was born in Hot Springs, Virginia on September 19, 1952, the son of Ralph L. Jackson and the late Patricia Sherwood Jackson. He was married to his wife of 42 years, Velda Jackson. He was a professional soldier with the United States Army and retired after 21 years of dedicated service. Lonnie loved the mountains and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed gardening and was very family oriented. He will be greatly missed by his friends and loved ones.
He is survived by his wife, Velda Jackson of Craigsville; his father, Ralph Jackson of Staunton; a daughter, Windy Sprouse & fiancé Scott; two grandsons, Rodney “Wayne” and Eric Walton “Walt-Man” Sprouse, all of Craigsville; three sisters, Tammy Jackson & fiancé Steve of Greenville, Virginia, Judy Bosserman & husband Preston, and Vickie Johnson & husband Jimmy, both of Staunton; four brothers, Leon Jackson & wife Debbie of Raphine, Virginia, Ronnie Jackson of Staunton, Homer Jackson of Richmond, Virginia, and Jimmy Jackson of Staunton; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Ed Mauzy of Craigsville.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kevin Jackson; and a very special son-in-law, Eric Sprouse.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the home of his daughter, 91 Ramsey Gap Road, Goshen, Virginia 24439.
