Margarette May Harold, 99, of 284 Tinkertown Road, Hot Springs, Virginia, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at her residence.
She was born July 20, 1912 in Bath County, Virginia the daughter of the late Amos Dice May and Viola Fry May. She was married to Russell F. Harold, Sr., her husband of 40 years, who preceded her in death on January 17, 1974.
Mrs. Harold was employed with The Homestead Resort where she served 34 years in the housekeeping department until her retirement.
She was a member of the Ashwood United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking and babysitting her grandchildren.
Mrs. Harold was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Foster of Hot Springs; three sons, Freddie, Larry and Roger “Curley” Harold & wife Elda, all of Hot Springs; seven grandchildren, Lisa Matheny, Steven Foster, Jeanne Harold, Michael Harold, Nathan Harold, Melissa Harold and Jennifer Tomlin; eight great grandchildren; and five nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Hughes and Genevieve Carter; three brothers, Gratton May, Oscar May and Tommy May; two sons-in-law, Ernest Foster and Robert Foster; and two nephews, William Hughes and Danny Carter.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor David George officiating. Interment will follow at Union Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her sons and grandsons.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home.
