Maude Caraway Hively, 98, of Harrisonburg, Virginia died Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community.
She was born January 28, 1915 in Renick Valley, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Jacob Lewis Caraway and Mabel Rehm Caraway. Mrs. Hively attended public schools in Pocahontas County, West Virginia and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1932. On May 12, 1936 she married Clyde Carl Hively, Sr. from Frost, WV. Being the wife of a farm manager, Maude’s primary occupation was that of homemaker and mother. She later worked at Valley Animal Hospital in Warm Springs, Virginia for 25 years as a receptionist and a clinic assistant. She was a member of the Warm Springs Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School and served as the youth leader for many years. In 1986 the church presented her with Honorary Membership in the Women of the Presbyterian Church.
She is survived two sons, James E. Hively & wife Carole, of Broadway and Clyde C. Hively, Jr. & wife Joyce of Millboro, Virginia; four grandchildren, Kerri H. Earhart & husband, Alan of Broadway, Wendi E. Hively of Ashland, Ann M. Hively & husband Robert Warner of Radford, Nancy M. Hively & husband Mark Hildreth of Cameron, NC; seven great-grandchildren, Erin, Jacob & Jesse Earhart, Bailey & Brett Atwood, Warren Warner, Keziah & Evalyn Hively.
In addition to her parents and husband Mrs. Hively was preceded in death by a teenage sister, Ethel Caraway; a sister, Opal Johnson; and a granddaughter, Cathy Hively Hughes whose husband, David M. Hughes, survives.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Warm Springs Presbyterian Church with Reverend Charles Reed officiating.
