Ralph

Ralph Riner, Jr., 71, of Bacova, Virginia passed away on Saturday, May 05, 2018 at The Springs Nursing Center.

He was born October 29, 1946 in Charleston, West Virginia, the son of the late Ralph “Jack” Riner, Sr. and Thelma Ellen Hannah Riner.

Ralph was a self-employed auto mechanic, a Bath County Animal Control Officer, worked at the VEPCO Project, and ran Riner’s Lawn Service.  He was a versatile entrepreneur.

Ralph was a life member of the NRA, the Shriners, the Valley Springs Masonic Lodge No. 265, honorary member of the Millboro Masonic Lodge No. 28, a former District Deputy Grand Master for the 23rd District of Free Masons, the Virginia Trappers Association, and the BCB Club.

Being in the mountains and woods of Bath County was his life.  He was a keen and enthusiastic outdoorsman and loved to be in the elements.  His favorite hobbies were trapping, fishing, and hunting.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Patricia “Patti” Gayle Newbauer Riner of Bacova, VA; children, Laurie Ann Riner of Pilot, VA, James “Freddie” Michael Frederick Riner and wife Raegan of Lexington Park, Maryland, Autumn Lynn Riner Crosby of Harrisonburg, VA, Jason Nicholas Riner and wife Hollie of Norfolk, VA; 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and a sister, Mary Lynn Riner of Warm Springs.

To honor his life, family and friends are invited to gather at 5:00pm, at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home on Thursday, May 17, 2018, with a memorial service to follow at 6:00pm.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers in Ralph’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
