Robert Thomas “Bob” Jones, 72, of McGaheysville, Virginia, died Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at his residence.
He was born on October 4, 1939 in Bath County, Virginia to the late Robert Ransom and Iris Madaline Jackson. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and he worked in the construction field as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Chimney Run Church of the Brethren. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and was very proud of his garden. He loved the outdoors, but most of all, he loved people; he never knew a stranger.
He is survived by his best friend and companion, Patsy Chestnut of McGaheysville; a daughter, Christine Peterson & husband Bruce of California; two sons, Dale Franklin Jones of Montana, and Berlie Chestnut, Jr. & wife Tammy of Elkton, Virginia; a step daughter, Cindy Wandless & husband Ken of Bridgewater, Virginia; a step son, a sister, Iris Leary & husband Jack of Warm Springs, Virginia; two special sisters, Dreama Martin & husband Philip of Hot Springs, Virginia, and Nancy Williams & husband Charlie of Bolar, Virginia; three grandchildren, Clinton Peterson & wife Angelica, Miles Peterson and Sandy Peterson; a great granddaughter, Naomi Peterson; “his girls,” Holly Hawkins and Madison Kline of Bridgewater; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lorna Law; a nephew, Michael Leary; and his grandson and “buddy,” Robert Lee Hawkins, III.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 7, 2012 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home in Hot Springs. Interment will follow at Warm Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the funeral home.   1. My thoughts and prayers for the family and friends. I have not seen Bobby in years but have
    fond memories of our school years and farm work. He always had a smile and a jovial way about him. I know he is at rest in God’s Garden now.
