Rose Mary Taylor, 71, of Millboro, Virginia, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021, at the Salem Health & Rehabilitation Center in Salem, Virginia.

     She was born January 8, 1950, in Clifton Forge, Virginia, the daughter of the late Harmon W. Taylor and Charlotte McPherson Taylor. 

     Rose retired as a librarian with 30 years in the Mechlenburg, Highland, Bath and Petersburg schools and the Richmond Montessori School. She later worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for the Springs Nursing Center in Hot Springs and Woodlands in Clifton Forge.

     Rose was a graduate of Millboro High School. She received her AA from Dabney S. Lancaster, her BA from Madison College, and her Master’s in Education from JMU. She was a Member of the National Education Association, the Virginia State Education Association, the Mechlenburg Education Association, the Highland Education Association, the Bath Education Association, the Petersburg Education Association, the Virginia Educational Media Association, Ashwood United Methodist Church, and the VFW Auxiliary Post 4204; Rose was a volunteer with the Bath County Christmas Mother program, the Blood Mobile, and the Fairview Community Center.

     She is survived by her brother, David W. Taylor & wife Sarah Irwin of Millboro; nieces & nephew, Rebecca Klein & husband Zev of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mary Greene Balestrino & husband Matt of Fitchburg, Wisconsin, and Glen W. Taylor & wife Shannon of Ruther Glen, Virginia; great nieces and great nephews, Keegan Aislin Taylor, Shade Isaac Wilson Mazkin, Ryann Quinn Taylor, Tristan Allison Taylor, and Jackson Wayne Balestrino; a foster daughter, Sandra Megan Hull & husband Robert of Bent Mountain, Virginia; special foster niece, Wendy Mahon & friend Andrew Peck of Eagle Rock, Virginia; special great nephews, Stephen Mahon, Donovan Mahon, and Carson Peck all of Troutville, Virginia; special friends, Al & Randee Mahon of Buchanan, Virginia; and several cousins. 

     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Brinkley Taylor. 

     A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 19, 2021 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home in Hot Springs, Virginia , with Pastor Andrew Baek officiating and Pastor Vivian Utz assisting. In keeping with Rose’s wishes, there will be a picnic immediately following the services on the front lawn of the funeral home.  Interment will be at a later date at Woodland Cemetery.

I met Rose when she had her knee replacement.My Daughter and myself worked for her.the last time I got in touch with her everything was shut down for corvid then I had hip replacement. I was so shocked to get the news yesterday about her expiring. My Prayers and sympathy go out to all the Family that loved her. RIP Rose Mary Taylor.

  2. My absolute favorite teacher in elementary school. I was mesmerized when she did read aloud in class. This is such sad news.

  3. I was a volunteer in the library at Walnut Hill Elementary, Petersberg where Rose was the Liberian. We were friends. I know I will be in heaven with her one day. She was a special person and will surely be missed.
