Roy Dean, 94, of 17317 Sam Snead Highway, Warm Springs, Virginia, died Friday, October 19, 2012 at his residence.
He was born on May 26, 1918 in Wise County, Virginia, the son of the late Grat Dean & Tempie Stapleton Dean. He married his wife of 65 years, Dorothy K. Dean on May 31, 1947. He was a truck driver who retired after 27 years of service with the Virginia Hot Springs Company. He was an outdoor enthusiast who loved to hunt and fish and was a member of Hot Springs Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed.
Mr. Dean is survived by his wife, Dorothy Dean of Warm Springs; two daughters, Betty Robertson and Dotty Dean of Sanford, North Carolina; a grandson, Phillip Robertson of Sanford; three brothers, Carson Dean of Richmond, Virginia, Curtis Dean of Low Moor, Virginia, and Marvin “Johnny” Dean of Ohio; a sister, Gracie Liptrap of Hot Springs, Virginia; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Callie Wilson, Myrtle Cauley, Beatrice Ryder and Ida Salyers; and three brothers, Norvel “Doc” Dean, identical twin, Troy “Dugan-Shorty” Dean, and infant brother, Walter Dean.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 22, 2012 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home in Hot Springs with the Reverend Garland Humphries officiating. Interment will be in Warm Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donnie Liptrap, Stevie Hodge, Carl May, Barrie Wolf, Julian Schaeffer, Billy Bogan and William Hise.
