Sara LaymanSara Layman, 75, of Hot Springs, died Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at the Berkshire Health & Rehabilitation Center in Vinton, Virginia.  She was the daughter of the late Everett “Abe” and Nancy Layman.

She is survived by a brother, Philip Layman of Hot Springs; a sister, Martha “Marty” Jenkins of Craig Creek; two nieces, Susan Williams of Clifton Forge and Melissa Williams of Hot Springs; and two nephews, James Layman of Monterey and Charles Layman of Roanoke.

Sara attended Bluefield College, Concord College, Radford, and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree at JMU.  She taught in the Bath County School system for several years.  She owned and operated Mountain Magic in Hot Springs, was a writer/reporter for the Bath & Highland Recorder, and traveled with a photography group.

Sara loved arts and crafts and had an amazing talent for both.  She had a wonderful sense of humor and lived her life with no regrets.

As per her request, her body has been donated to science.

  1. Sara was one of the most intelligent and talented persons I had ever known She was ahead of her time as a free spirit. Unique and exciting memories only concerning her. She even made Ernie into a hero after he suggested she be tested for sleep apnea and saved her life and called us many times thanking him thru the years. We are all better by having known Sara.

  2. So sorry. Remember many activities growing up at Healing Springs Baptist Church. Wonderful times.
