Sarah Jeannette Burns, 64, of Hot Springs, Virginia, passed away Monday, November 24, 2025, at the Springs Nursing Center in Hot Springs. She became a resident of The Springs in March of 2025. Prior to that she resided at the Wellman House in Millboro, Virginia. She was one of the first residents when it opened almost 30 years ago.

She was the daughter of the late Clyde Tillison Burns & Nettie Louise Hodge Lindsay. Sarah was born in the early morning hours of January 31, 1961, at the home of her maternal grandparents, Edward and Evelyn Hodge, in Warm Springs, Virginia, during a heavy snowstorm. She was delivered by Dr. Jeanette Jarman and assisted by neighbors Sarah Hester Hodge and Sarah “Winnie” Madison and was named in honor of them. Due to her premature birth and health issues, Sarah lived her life differently from most children and adults but with love from her family. She was born “their little angel”. She was a member of Starr Chapel Community Church for over 50 years.

She is survived by a brother, Clyde E. Burns of Hot Springs; five sisters, Susie Lee & husband John of Knoxville, Tennessee, Helen Burns of Clifton Forge, Virginia, Tillie Graham & husband Fred of Chesterfield, Virginia, Millie Burns of Deerfield, Virginia, and Sharon Weinstein & husband Mike of Sandston, Virginia; a stepfather, David Lindsay of Hot Springs, Virginia; two aunts Ellen “Bootsie” Hodge & Betty Hicklin both of Hot Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by a brother, Royce Burns.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor David George, officiating. Interment will be in Jacob Cleek Cemetery in Warm Springs. Pallbearers will be Anthony Hiser, Bobby Bogan, Darrell Hicklin, Fred Graham, Tommy Hicklin, Red Ryder, and William Berry.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers for the love and support that they have shown over the years.

Memorial contributions may be made to Starr Chapel Community church, c/o Betty Hicklin, P.O. Box 925, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445 or the Hot Springs Fire & Rescue Association, P.O. Box 1313, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445.
