Thomas “Tommy” Anderson Folks, Jr., 65, of Bacova, Virginia, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2026, at his residence.

Tommy was born on September 6, 1961, in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Thomas Anderson Folks, Sr. and Gwendolin Dale Purvis Folks.

He retired from Lowry Masonry and Construction after 17 years of dedicated service. A master stone mason, Tommy took great pride in his craft, and his work can be seen throughout Bath County and the surrounding areas.

Tommy was a beloved member of his community, known as the Mayor of Bacova. He had a generous heart, helping hands, and willingness to lend a hand whenever someone was in need. He was the kind of neighbor and friend people could always count on, whether it was helping with yard work, lending a hand with a project, or simply being there when someone needed him. His kindness, hard work, and genuine love for the people around him left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.

An avid outdoorsman, Tommy loved nature, gardening, and spending time outside. He took tremendous pride in maintaining his own yard and was meticulous about keeping it looking its best. His love for the outdoors was matched by the care he showed his neighbors, friends, and family. Tommy’s presence in Bacova and the surrounding community will be deeply missed, as he was more than a neighbor or friend—he was a familiar face, a helping hand, and someone who made his community a better place.

Above all, Tommy was a loving father and a proud “Paw Paw.” His family was a special part of his life, and his love for his children and grandchildren was a treasured part of who he was.

He is survived by his two children, Ashley Robertson and Jonathan of Warm Springs, Virginia, and Abby Batten and husband Aubrey of Alleghany County, Virginia; grandchildren, Colton, Peyton, Sophia, Tatum, Tucker, and Emery; a sister, Debbie Woolfrey and husband Roger of Fredericksburg, Virginia; the mother of his children, Cindy Folks of Bacova, Virginia; his special companion, “Cardi”; special friend, Nick George of Bacova, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Patty Kincaid.

A Celebration of His Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2026, at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home, with Pastor Donald Lee Altizer, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., at the funeral home or anytime at the home of Ashley Robertson in Warm Springs.

Memorial contributions may be made to McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home to help with final expenses.

Arrangements are being handled by McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.mclaughlinandyoung.com.

  2. Tommy had a heart of gold and would do anything to help us and others if he could and he was not only our neighbor for 37 years but was a dear friend – he was like a brother to us! We are definitely going to miss him and the comment that Bacova will never be the same is so true!
Our hearts, love and prayers go out to the family. Family was everything to him and he beamed whenever he talked about them.
Rest in peace Tommy- no more pain!
