Travis Vardell Braxton, Sr., 64, of 254 Pinehurst Heights, Hot Springs, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia.
He was born September 6, 1946 in Bath County, Virginia the son of the late Hepburn Braxton and Mary Jennings Braxton.
He was married to Brenda Braxton of Hot Springs, his wife of 42 years whom he married on July 29, 1969.
Travis was retired from the United States Post Office with 42 years of service; and was a bartender for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Piney Grove Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons, was a member of the choir and a member of the Hospitality Committee. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and relaxing under his favorite walnut tree. Travis never knew a stranger, he was a friend to all and will be sadly missed.
In addition to his wife Brenda, he is survived by two children, Travis Braxton, Jr. & wife Candace of Covington, Virginia, Bryan Braxton & wife Michelle of Roanoke, Virginia; a grandson Travis Braxton III of Newport News; an adopted daughter, Melissa Scott of Newport News; an adopted granddaughter, Sharlene Brown of Newport News; six cousins, Carolyn Braxton Jackson, Phyllis Braxton Mack and Roger Braxton all of Hot Springs, Virginia, Beverly Braxton, Jr. of Luray, Virginia, Phillip Braxton Cook and Lenox Braxton Cook; a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; cousins, nieces, nephews & friends.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening, April 23rd from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home. A private funeral service for family and friends will be held at a later date.
